In my last post, I talked about social networking and its use in online education. Many choose online education not because it is mandatory in the current unpleasantness but because it is a new way that involves more possibilities for content creation, class management, and student-content-teacher interaction. This one and the following posts will focus on some online tools, both new and relatively old, that can be used in education.

Edmodo

Edmodo is a service that provides teachers tools to help them easily manage and communicate with their students and parents. Teachers can share content, texts, videos, homework and assignments with their students online using the website and mobile app. Students can simply join classes using a class code.

Edmodo works like a social networking platform. It has a feed in its homepage where you can post and track quizzes, questions, and assignments. In the Classes section, all your classes are listed. There are educational games, apps, and videos shared by teachers in the Discover section. Edmodo also offers Office Online integration.


Edmodo is a freemium service so some features such as unlimited storage space is limited to premium accounts. It is possible to use this platform for basic student management but to take full advantage of the tools offered, one needs to sign up for a premium account. Fortunately whether it is a teacher, student, or a parent, anyone can sign up on https://new.edmodo.com and try it.

  Online Blackboard, Google Jamboard Google Jamboard is blackboard but online. Just like a blackboard, you can write, draw, or place sticky notes on it and the students who were invited via a link will observe changes in real time. Students can also be made editors and be allowed to make changes on the board as they wish. Unlike a blackboard, Jamboard has undo and redo options that you can use to take back and repeat your changes. Additionally, it has a select tool which you can use to move the selected elements around.
