The Duolingo language learning app is the world's most popular way to learn languages. The company's mission is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. Learning with Duolingo is fun, and research shows that it works!



Mondly is a language learning app and website that offers a lot of languages but little value in terms of scaffolding and challenges. It's decent as a study aid for reinforcing basic words and concepts you learned in another class or app. There's a limited free version, so you can try it out for yourself without risk.





Busuu is a language-learning app that offers 12 language options for native English speakers, along with a comprehensive placement test, and the ability to connect with native speakers. Both free and premium versions of Busuu are available.





Memrise is a language learning app that is the opposite of textbook learning: it's enjoyable and effective. Founded in 2010, Memrise has quickly grown and now close to 60 million people in 189 countries learn languages with us to better themselves, connect with others and with the world around them.
